Black Star

ORIGIN
Released from S. Lugli and S.sansavini (A.C.D. Bologna University). It comes from a cross Lapins x Burlat (1985). The tree was selected in Vignola in 1990/1992 and controlled from 1997 to 2000  at the CRPV -ACD selection grounds.

TREE
Medium vigour, open growing, well branched.

BLOSSOM
Medium season time. High and uniform. Self-fertile variety

RIPENING
16-18 days after Burlat. Uniform and holds well on the tree.

FRUIT
High weight (10-12 gr.), heart shape, symmetrical. Dark red colour, uniform and brilliant in all the surface. Fine grained in late ripening. Red firm soft flesh and high quality. Very sweet > 18 Brix  and good acid content (7-8 g/l malic acid). Medim to long peduncule. Medium stone.

AGRICULTURAL  EVALUATION
It starts to bear in the third year, high and regular productivity. It produces fruits both in short shoots and one year branches. Resistant to cracking in raining springs. It is the most resistant variety.

EVALUATION
Self-fertile variety of medium ripening, very interesting because it has similar agricultural characteristics as the best self-fertile varieties, but cracking resistant. With uniform bear, high productivity. Its firmness in ripening season permits picking for more than a week.
